Advertising

Advertising is ad blocks the platform shows in dedicated places on the page.

Overview

Ad blocks are created in Admin Panel → Monetization → Ads. Each block is tied to one position on the page, can be limited to a display period and targeted at devices and cities.

Subscribers do not see ads when the ad_free subscription feature is in effect.

Positions

• Top of the page: one block
• Right block: one block in each ad widget of the right column; matching blocks are distributed among the widgets in descending order of priority, blocks with equal priority in random order, extra ones are not shown. The widgets are added in Admin Panel → Settings → Interface → Sidebar, see Site Settings
• Start of the feed or post: one block
• After the post: one block

In the other positions, the matching block with the highest priority is shown, and a random one out of several with equal priority. The same block is not shown twice on a page.

Block

A block has these fields:

• Name: required, up to 255 characters
• Position: required
• Banner type: required, see Banner types
• Active: an inactive block is not shown
• Start date and end date: optional; without them the block is shown with no time limit
• Priority: an integer from 0
• Targeting: devices and cities

A block starts and stops being shown by its dates with up to an hour of delay.

Banner types

• Standard banner: an image up to 5 MB with a link; a title, description, domain, age label, button text, background color or image and opening in a new tab can also be set
• Custom HTML: arbitrary HTML with CSS and JavaScript

Targeting

• Devices: desktop, mobile or tablet
• Cities: the city is detected by IP address

An empty field means all devices or all cities. A block targeted at cities is also shown to visitors whose city could not be detected.
